Australasian Association for Theatre Drama and Performance Studies Conference

3-6 JULY 2012

Creative Industries Precinct
Queensland University of Technology | Kelvin Grove Campus

Brisbane, Queensland

The Australasian Association for Theatre, Drama and Performance Studies (ADSA) is the peak academic association promoting the study of drama in any medium, genre or context in Australasia.

The Australasian Association for Theatre, Drama and Performance Studies (ADSA) Conference 2012 will be called “Compass Points: The Locations, Landscapes and Coordinates of Identities”, and will be hosted by Queensland University of Technology from 3 to 6 July 2012.

The Conference will investigate the idea of Compass Points – North, South, East and West – with a focus on the way location, landscape and cultural geography contribute to the construction and performance of identity. Where are we located? Which parts of our personal, social, cultural, geographical or technological landscape orient us? Which incidents change our conception of our landscape, and, by extension, our identity? Understood literally, metaphorically, and through the landscape of human memory, this topic encourages us to think about the way in which location, direction, orientation and disorientation are enacted in our everyday lives, and in the many performance-making practices we use to express our lives.

The Conference will include keynote presentations from a number of prominent scholars and practitioners – representing the North, Chiel Kattenbelt (University of Utrecht, The Netherlands), representing the South, Elizabeth Leane (University of Tasmania, Australia), representing cross-cultural transit between East and West, Lois Weaver and Peggy Shaw (Split Britches, UK / US), and representing a contested centre, Wesley Enoch (Queensland Theatre Company) and David Berthold (La Boite Theatre Company).

The Disappearances Project Version 1.0

Thursday 5th July 7:30pm

Following the journeys of those left behind in the wake of disappearances, The Disappearances Project explores the search for both lost loved ones and for the pieces of shattered lives. An intimate new work from the Helpmann Award-winning performance group version 1.0. For more information, see the Registration Page.

Accommodation Note

IMPORTANT - Please be aware that the conference will be running over the same time as a major sporting event will be taking place in Brisbane. You will possibly find that accommodation rates for the night of Wednesday July 4, 2012 may be more far more expensive than the nights either side of this date due to this event.

This event also places a greater demand on hotel properties in Brisbane and they will all fill up very quickly so we advise that you get in early and book your accommodation to avoid disappointment

For additional information about the Conference, and arrangements for the Conference, please see –
